Founded by Caroline Hirons, Skin Rocks is the go-to source of truth for skin care experts and enthusiasts alike. Ask your friend who's really into skin care, and they will know about Caroline. With her team at Skin Rocks, she wanted an app to work as a directory for products, and an expert in your pocket for everything skincare related.

The Skin Rocks app offers tailored product recommendations to guide users through the overwhelming world of skincare. At its launch, the app featured a search tool for over 10,000 products, educational guides, personalised skin profiles, and an extensive database covering thousands of brands. Within just 12 hours of its soft launch, the app was downloaded 16,000 times. It quickly reached the top position in the Health & Fitness app chart and ranked No. 4 among free apps in the UK App Store.

The skin care enthusiasts the app is aimed towards generally know what skin concerns they have, and what products they already like. But they're looking for that extra bit of insight from Caroline and her team.

We created an onboarding questionnaire to quickly capture people's requirements from the start, and give them a personalised experience throughout the app.

The vision

Skincare involves lots of factors, from skin types to specific concerns, which can make selecting the right product a big job. This challenge became clear during testing, where most users preferred using filters rather than the text search function.


Based on this feedback, we prioritised enhancing the filter feature to allow users to refine according to their preferences more effectively, and save their preferences for future use as they keep coming back to the app.
